Description

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Financial Accountant (FA) will be a key player in facilitating the financial reporting and compliance for multiple Canadian entities.  Working closely with the Operational and Corporate Finance Teams, the FA is a key contributor to the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, working papers, and variance analysis. In addition to these core deliverables, the FA will support key initiatives, including enhancing business processes and the optimization of the close process.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Financial Accounting experience gained in a large, international, complex, publicly traded organization.
  • The candidate must hold an undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent along with an accounting designation (CPA).
  • Tactical, knowledgeable, and timely decision-making.
  • Ability to deep dive into numbers to recognize the drivers behind the numbers (Balance sheet / P&L).
  • Strategic problem solving to ensure all angles are well covered and anticipate knock-on impacts of issue.
  • Know when to solicit input from others, including his/her manager, to ensure all aspects are well covered prior to decision-making.

Responsibilities

As a key member of North America (NAM) Control team, the Financial Accountant must have the ability to:

  • Manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks accordingly, and meet the expectations of multiple stakeholders (i.e. corporate finance team, FP&A team, financial operations team, external auditors, and operations team).
  • Process monthly journal entries, ensuring all transactions are SOX compliant.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Perform P&L and balance sheet (BS) analysis monthly and obtain a thorough understanding of variances in account balances to provide meaningful commentary to senior management.
  • Be flexible and work collaboratively as a team, taking on new tasks as needed to achieve the goal of timely and accurate reporting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP (preferred).
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Be an agent of change through a continuous improvement process.
