Description

The Business Analyst, Real Estate plays a key role in supporting Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers’ global real estate strategy by delivering data-driven insights, financial analysis, and strategic reporting across owned and leased properties. This role partners closely with Finance, Operations, and Executive stakeholders to evaluate site performance, optimize portfolio utilization, and support acquisitions, dispositions, and lease negotiations.

In addition to internal portfolio analysis, the role is responsible for reviewing and synthesizing external real estate and market data to identify industry trends and competitive insights for management review. The Business Analyst prepares executive-level reporting, develops presentation materials, and produces a recurring monthly newsletter that communicates key internal metrics, performance trends, and strategic insights to senior leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities, commercial real estate knowledge, and polished communication skills to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that support operational efficiency and long-term portfolio value.

This is a hybrid position, reporting to the Burnaby office on Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Real Estate, Analytics, or a related field
  • Diploma/Degrees in financially related (includes economics and accounting) or real estate significant plus
  • 4+ years of experience in business analysis, financial analysis, consulting, or analytics roles
  • Proficiency in reviewing lease agreements, property assessments, and tax documents to support operational efficiency and long-term portfolio value
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel (e.g., manipulation of large datasets) and data visualization software like Tableau or Power BI to drive strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze global real estate portfolios, review site performance, lease structures (owned vs. leased), and strategic property utilization programs
  • Build complex financial and operational models to evaluate acquisitions, dispositions, and lease negotiations, specifically calculating metrics like Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
  • Develop and distribute a monthly executive newsletter reporting on internal real estate metrics, portfolio performance, and key insights
  • Create high-quality presentation materials, including PowerPoint decks, for executive leadership, strategy reviews, and stakeholder meetings
  • Maintain and enhance dashboards, reports, and analytical tools to support ongoing portfolio monitoring and strategic planning
  • Review and synthesize external market trends and competitive insights to identify strategic opportunities for management review
