Job Description

As our VAT Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and submitting timely and accurate VAT declarations and related filings. You will reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare journal entries, and manage VAT payments and refunds. You will liaise with tax authorities during inspections, maintain documentation of instructions and internal processes, and handle tax technology issues by providing analysis and solution ideas. Additionally, you will offer VAT compliance advice to internal stakeholders, create training materials, and actively train other teams as needed. Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure compliant solutions is also a key part of your role.

In this role you’ll: 

  • Prepare and submit VAT and related filings accurately and on time for EMEA and APAC 
  • Returns are primarily prepared in-house, but the role involves liaising with external advisors in some territories to manage submissions and reconciliations. 
  • Secure timely VAT payments, follow up on VAT refunds, and manage the cash flow. 
  • Perform VAT balance reconciliations and analysis. 
  • Prepare accurate and timely responses to VAT inquiries and tax/revenue audits. Depending on the complexity, this can be executed independently. 
  • Ensure SOX demands are met. 
  • Obtain a good understanding of the relevant setups of the IT systems used by RB with respect to VAT.   
  • Flag systems, processes, and invoice issues. Discerning nature, source, relevance, and risk level. Communicate effectively. Contribute to resolving with ideas and implementation. 
  • Provide support with the further Alteryx implementation, review and improvement of tools, controls, and best practices to support the further transition of VAT technology. 
  • Provide day-to-day moderate complexity tax advice and recommend actions that meet the business plans while managing the VAT liability 
  • Monitor VAT regulations affecting the company. 
  • Maintain and create instructions. Document processes, prepare training materials, and establish guidelines. 
  • Contribute providing solutions and assistance in global and regional processes and technological changes and improvements. 
  • Frequently interact with peers and internal stakeholders to gain the cooperation of others or conduct training and project activities. 

Qualifications

You are an independent, proactive professional who excels in planning, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines. You make informed decisions on compliance and tax audits, manage risks, and escalate issues appropriately. Strong in coordination and communication, you provide reliable tax compliance advice. You prioritize your work, innovate to improve processes, ensure accurate filings, analyze information thoroughly, document work meticulously, and present ideas clearly. 

  • Bachelor's degree in Tax Law or relevant field. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a VAT role for a large multinational company. 
  • Fluent in English (another European language is a plus).
  • Knowledge in IT/ VAT automation is preferred; it should be developed (further) as part of this role.
