Description

Experienced Payroll Tax Accountant to manage and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations. This role is responsible for reconciling payroll taxes and remittances, registering in new jurisdictions, handling audits or inquiries related to payroll taxes, preparation of weekly and biweekly payroll and bank reconciliations.  A strong background in payroll tax laws, excellent analytical skills, and attention to detail is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of payroll tax experience in a corporate or public accounting environment, supporting a workforce (including remote) of 7000+ employees.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Federal, State, and Local payroll tax regulations, strong knowledge of taxation of fringe benefits including RSU/PSU’s and Stock Options.
  • Experience with payroll software and systems (e.g., Oracle HCM and ADP Smart Compliance).
  • Intermediate/Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task and be self-motivated.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings, amendments, and reporting including W-2’s and W-2C’s.
  • Reconcile all tax and wage amounts for multiple legal entities, monthly, quarterly and annually between the Oracle HCM and ADP Smart Compliance including reconciliation of W-2’s to payroll tax reports and the quarterly 941 returns to W-2 totals. Research and resolve all discrepancies.
  • Analyze payroll tax issues and implement solutions. Perform monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation of gross earnings to taxable wages to validate accuracy.
  • Submit tax notices and in conjunction with ADP resolve timely to reduce P&I, identify root cause, and implement solution to prevent future occurrences. Manage communications with tax authorities and respond to payroll tax notices or audits directly, when necessary.
  • Research all W-2 inquiries and process W-2C’s, when applicable.
  • Ensure state and local taxes are accurate based on employee’s work jurisdictions.  
  • Collaborate with People Team (People Business Partners, TA, Total Rewards, etc) and Accounting/Finance teams to ensure accuracy of employee data and tax withholding.
  • Analyze payroll tax liabilities and assist in forecasting and budgeting tax obligations.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, multi-state, and local tax regulations, including taxation of fringe benefits, by studying existing and new legislation and ensure compliance and advise management on needed actions.
  • Assist in preparation of weekly and biweekly bank reconciliations. Validate all payroll data is costed and transferred to the GL on a weekly basis.
  • Provides excellent customer services to our employees and external partners.
