Job Description

The Senior System Engineer is a critical role within our organization and is responsible for designing, deploying, and optimizing virtualized and containerized infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance within the virtualization ecosystem, while also enabling efficient and secure cloud virtualization solutions to support business demands. The Sr. Systems Engineer will collaborate with IT and development teams to create a resilient infrastructure that supports virtual machines, container platforms, and cloud-based workloads.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in both traditional virtualization platforms (such as VMware, Hyper-V) and containerization technologies (such as Docker, Kubernetes), along with experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to support hybrid cloud deployments.

Responsibilities

Virtualization Infrastructure Management
Design, implement, and manage the virtual infrastructure, ensuring optimal configuration, performance, and availability of virtual machines. Oversee maintenance and upgrades for platforms like VMware, Hyper-V, and cloud-based virtualization to support business operations effectively and ensure a reliable virtual environment

Performance Monitoring and Optimization
Implement robust monitoring tools and practices to track the health, performance, and utilization of virtual and containerized environments. Continuously analyze performance metrics, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues to maintain high service quality and avoid disruptions.

Security and Compliance Management
Ensure the security of virtualized and containerized environments by enforcing policies and implementing best practices, including access control, vulnerability management, and compliance monitoring. Collaborate with security teams to protect against threats and ensure data integrity within virtual and container environments.

Disaster Recovery and Backup Management
Develop and manage backup and disaster recovery plans for virtualization and containerization platforms. Regularly test and update recovery procedures to minimize data loss and downtime in case of disruptions, ensuring that the virtual infrastructure supports business continuity requirements.

Performance and Capacity Optimization
Assess the performance of virtualized and containerized systems, making critical decisions about resource allocation (e.g., CPU, RAM, storage) to ensure systems are optimized for current and future workloads. Decide on capacity planning strategies and necessary upgrades or adjustments to avoid performance bottlenecks while balancing cost constraints.

Troubleshooting Complex Virtualization and Containerization Issues
Quickly diagnose and resolve complex issues related to virtualized and containerized environments, such as resource allocation problems, system crashes, or application failures. This requires in-depth knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

Fault Tolerance and High Availability Configuration
Solve problems related to setting up and maintaining high availability (HA) and fault tolerance in virtualized and cloud environments. This requires identifying and correcting failover mechanisms, load balancing issues, or service interruptions to ensure business continuity in case of infrastructure failure.

Data Backup and Recovery in Virtualized Infrastructures
Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to data backups and disaster recovery in virtualized environments. This includes ensuring backup systems work as expected, solving issues with data restoration processes, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of backup solutions across virtualized and containerized systems.
